Don't wait until you know you have a problem

If I have already worked on your computer in the past, odds are I have the ability to help you with a simple click of the mouse using the LogMeIn Remote service (which I highly recommend you use if you aren't doing so already).

You hear it all the time and see it in every health prevention article, just how important preventative maintenance is for every human being.  It isn't that different with your computer.  If you think there may be a problem, or it simply feels like the computer has slowed down substantially from the way it used to be.. that is the time to react.. just drop me a line if you want me to check on things. Odds are if you haven't had me connect to your computer in the past 3 months there are definitely updates to be performed and the more often you do get that checkup, the less it is going to cost you down the road.  Ask me how.

Configuring U-Torrent

With my DVR for TV I rarely watch it live any more. That goes for live sporting events even. I will purposely pause on the first commercial, if I have started to watch the program live from the beginning. I will then go about my business for a few minutes at the very least, then start fast forwarding through commercials. Typically on a live even such as a hockey game, I find it helps if you allow a full period to be recorded before you start and that will usually get you back to 'live tv' pretty much as the game ends. Therefore I have wasted no additional length of time then the alloted amount the program was scheduled for, as well, I managed to get a few other things done.

When my DVR either hasn't got the scheduled program, or in the case of 'How I Met Your Mother' (which I had never watched an episode in its entirety even though I have always liked the cast of the show I figured I missed out so much since it seemed to truly flow from week to week even though it is a sitcom), I have been able to start from the very first episode. Since this program is only 30 minutes in length on broadcast, the actual time is more like 21 minutes therefore setting aside an hour will allow me to get through 3 shows. I am almost caught up as I will begin the current season very soon. For me this has truly been the best way to experience a TV program and with the Bit-Torrent programs now available, it makes this sort of file sharing even easier.   Being in Canada means no watching from the USA network websites like Hulu/NBC, ABC, CBS unless you utilize the Hotspot Shield software which I have blogged about before. I have found U-Torrent to be the most user friendly and that is always good.  The problem is with so many ways to get on to the internet (through a wireless router/hub/switch), it is inevitable there will be times when things seem to be crawling along and so it may be beneficial to configure u-Torrent for maximum upload and download speeds.

Google returns the favor, includes Avast antivirus in Google pack

I have been using Avast antivirus for years and so have most of my clients. It is nice to see some of the smaller fish getting noticed over at Google.

It was really just a matter of time before Avast replaced Norton Security Scan and Spyware Doctor in the Google Pack. After last month's introduction of Google as an opt-in during Avast installs, most of us fully expected Google to return the favor.

A quick look at the options on the Google Pack web page reveals that the change has begun. Right now, only users from certain countries will receive Avast in their download (Poland and Italy, for example).

The relationship between the two companies will no doubt mean big increases in the number of installs for both Chrome and Avast. The world's most popular free antivirus software and, well, Google -- together? That's the same kind of superhuman duo as Jan and Zayna! [the Wonder Twins]

Ok, it's probably a little more effective than "shape of a booby!" "form of an ice anvil!"... but you get the idea.
