Happy Birthday To Me!

Your Birthday

<p>Happy Birthday Aquarius!</p>

Happy Birthday Aquarius!

Born today, you rely a great deal on all of your skills, and when they are not working in harmony, you are not likely to score the successes you would otherwise anticipate. You are a fine example of physical, mental and emotional equilibrium; rarely does one facet of your being take precedence over another for long, and it is essential that you maintain a rare kind of harmony throughout your lifetime — for when you do not, you are likely to experience a kind of uncertainty and existential clumsiness that can actually be quite dangerous.

Though you may not be beautiful in a classical way, there is something about you that will surely hold members of the opposite sex in something of a spell whenever you are around. Indeed, you are likely to get more romantic attention than others known for their beauty and sex appeal.

Also born on this date are Nastassja Kinski, actress and model; Edith Wharton, novelist; Mary Lou Retton, Olympic gymnast; Neil Diamond, singer and songwriter; John Belushi, actor and comedian; Aaron Neville, singer.

Avast Needs Re-Registration

If you are one of the many that are using the Avast Antivirus and are now getting a re-registation notice, I can help.  Since the program is free, they simply want you to register it and when you do, they will send you a confirmation registration code that you can then copy and paste in to the registration key by clicking on the AVAST icon to start the program and as it begins to scan your start up files, click on the REGISTER key and paste your new code. It is really quite simple. Or if you find my instructions complicated or confusing, you can always contact me and I can do it for you!

Starbucks Pay by app issues-where's my discount?

For those that know me, they know how obsessed I am with new technology so it should come as no surprise that I am now posting my initial comments and concerns with the new "pay-by-app" feature Starbucks has introduced.  Sure, I love this new feature and hope more vendors will take to it soon, however before I jump on board, especially with the Starbucks app, I have a few issues.

Yes, it is convenient for those joggers/walkers that leave home with nothing more than their house key and their cell phone and wish to buy a coffee, but if you are using this for nothing more than convenience, shouldn't you also get some sort of reward, other than what they advertise as a 'time convenience'?  Since I have yet to EVER walk straight up to a Starbucks counter without waiting in some sort of line, I don't think this is the best approach. As I just mentioned, it might make more sense to use the active lifestyle approach such as jogging/walking and not carrying your purse/wallet.  Sure the app is free, but shouldn't you also be saving something on the overall cost of product? Even a quarter is better than nothing and since this sort of app is only opening up the doors for future app hacking whereas you are currently having to 'refill your card', essentially paying the company up front for a product you have yet to use. Also, from what I have read on most fine-print documents on said pre-paid cards, there is a time limit whereas if the card is not activated after a set amount of time or is not completely used within a specific amount of time, the company will start taking a specific amount each month off the card. If the future is going to be pay by app then there has to be some savings for this to truly be worth while. For now, thank you Starbucks for leading the way, but until you actually give me a discount for using this product, no way will I be giving you my money up front, especially when your product is the most expensive out of all coffee companies in the world as it is.

Gmail-Send & Archive not working-solved

Ok well maybe it is not completely solved, but I know now why the Send & Archive feature of Google Mail "labs item" stopped working.

It appears if you have CONVERSATION VIEW turned OFF then send & archive will NOT work.  Turning the CONVERSATION VIEW to the ON position will once again allow the current Gmail Labs feature-Send & Archive to work.

The problem:  When Conversation View is OFF and you attempt to use Send & Archive, it will send but not archive. In a way I guess this kind of makes sense (since it is currently a lab feature and not completely bug proof), when you have conversation view OFF, this means you do not want each email thread to be joined in to one long message, thus causing the send & archive to not function, whereas turning the Conversation View on means you DO want each message thread to be joined in to one message, which would make the send & archive make sense, since you have completed the message and want to archive the item. Since the next time this message is re-activated, in the case there is further responses to the message, it basically calls up the message from the "all mail" (archive folder) of gmail. Having the CONVERSATION VIEW turned to the OFF position means you want each message as an individual message, thus making the Send & Archive feature unavailable.  It should be corrected however, before this feature leaves the gmail labs I should think.

So for now, you have to make the choice of either having your conversations to be threaded together (conversation view ON) and NOT be able to use Send & Archive, or have your messages in one thread, allowing the Send & Archive feature to work.

Personally I like the conversation threading anyway so I'll leave things as is.  The problem with conversation threading only affects those that send me a new message by simply going to an old message and replying from it, causing this new message to have the old message subject which can be quite frustrating since the new message may have nothing to do with the subject header. You are more likely to have this problem when those using email clients like Outlook are too lazy to click NEW MESSAGE and simply go to an older message that is most likely still in their inbox.  Are you one of these people?
