No Agenda Thursday Show

Something Big is happening

Dear Producer,

The Show wants to thank you for your support for John and the No Agenda Showbased on the last newsletter. It made September a good month for the show. Onward to show the 8 year anniversary. It's coming in less than a month and everyone wouldlove to see you get involved.
Tomorrow’s show wraps a number of over-hyped events, not the least of which was the visit of the Pope to the United States. The only thing to come out of it looks to be a new cache of silly emoji’s showing the Pope in a variety of ludicrous and unlikely situations with apparent hidden meanings. You cannot imagine what historians will think of these when re-discovered in a few hundred years.

All that was missing from the collection was Friar (nee Saint) Junipero Serra whipping Native Americans with a cat o’ nine tails while telling them to get to work.
The show will also feature a discussion of the Russian airstrikesthat have just begun in Syria. The first target? Homs, the city your No Agenda Show first identified as the pipelines crossroads 3 or more years ago. If you have been listening to No Agenda none of this ever surprises you.

This is the only show that gives you the real stories behind the slanted, embellished and outright fake stories provided by the mainstream media. No Agenda is constantly ahead of other analysts too.
Ed Snowden joined Twitter in a half-baked publicity stunt for the company. Despite the fact that there are 17 US government intelligence agencies and hundreds around the world as well as thousands of contractors, Snowden chooses to follow one and only one of them, the NSA. Really? It’s just press releases anyway. His tweets seem as if they are written by a publicist but the media is gah-gah over this. If you look at his followers they seem as if they were just planted by Twitter. It’s hard to believe any of these people give a crap about Snowden or even know who he is.
In other news it looks as if the US will keep troops in Afghanistan until 2016 to maintain and secure the poppy fields.

Only your No Agenda Show will get this all analyzed correctly.  Support these efforts with a contribution today.
Your co-hosts,
John C. Dvorak & Adam Curry

    No Agenda-The Saturday Memo

This special edition of the newsletter is to answer questions about my being banned from Twit.

    Note from John C. Dvorak

Unceremoniously fired by Leo for tweeting. The real explanation.

    Producers,

I was unceremoniously fired without warning from ever doing the Twit podcasts again based on a casual tweet made concerning the media (and Leo and Jeff Jarvis) for all buying into the obvious bullcrap of Ahmed the clockmaker which Adam thoroughly deconstructed and eviscerated in a classic No Agenda take down that was a work of well-researched art.

The series of tweets are below. I’m not sure why Leo just couldn’t call and discuss this, but he did a similar thing to Brian Brushwood under even more sketchy circumstances. Leo pays his co-hosts $500 per appearance and I’m sure he figured he’d hurt me in my pocketbook by banning me.This is a person I thought was my friend.
This had been building up for a couple of reasons, primarily my take on Net Neutrality of which he was a major booster. Ever since the net neutrality debate began, people have sent me all sorts of recordings of Leo constantly bad mouthing me during his live in-between show banter. I have never complained about this. The last episode of this was actually sent in by a No Agenda Producer. It’s from April-May 2015 where Leo was caught saying the following about me.

[Leo talking to some guest] “I always think of you as a little more liberal than, say, somebody like Dvorak…who is definitely a money-obsessed Republican tool.”

You can listen to this yourself here. This was another reference to my take on net neutrality – it makes me a Republican tool.
According to Leo and Jarvis, this kid is an innocent victim of racism. I objected to that interpretation. I'm fired. Called a blowhard. Cripes.
Being called a Republican tool was a major signal that discontent was affecting the relationship. You can combine this with a number of other instances of sniping and his apparent bad-mouthing me at a Q&A in Austin at a meet up. The “Republican tool” comment though was very offensive as I am a registered Independent.

I was going to call out Leo on this, but figured he was “just being Leo,” which is a phrase people who know Leo commonly use. And I was curious to see where this hatred of me was headed.
As my opinions increased, this hatred continued and I knew my days were numbered working on Twit. Adam thinks that Leo is very jealous of No Agenda and its success. Recently Leo was recorded saying that he thinks he could do a better job than we do atNo Agenda and he has every so often commented about doing a political show. This is funny in itself because he rudely likes to say that he never listens to No Agenda.

But you have to wonder why he and Jeff Jarvis were pontificating on the Ahmed clock boy story in the first place. The show is called “This Week in Google.” What did this have to do with Google? In fact that show, like many shows lately, all re-hash the same general tech news, show after show. The New Screen Savers now talks about stories that used to be exclusive to Twit.

My last few times on Twit were greeted with “there’s no tech news” which is laughable.
I’ve seen a lot of companies go through this process where they let the cash cow languish and put their energy and money into speculative endeavors rather than bolster the cash cow and make the cash cow bigger.

So I’m out, perhaps as part of this process. Being one of the few co-hosts who actually drives to Petaluma to do the show in-studio rather than Skype-calling it in, I found the dust up to be bizarre, if not psycho nutty.

I got a lot of support by No Agenda fans and Twitter followers. One tweet caught my attention and I figured we should just make it part of the show and part of the donation structure.
So it ends there. This story will not be part of the No Agenda Show tomorrow, since there is plenty to discuss besides my appearances on Twit. This notice was written to explain the situationYou can show your support in any way you want. No Agenda will amp up the “tech news” segment of No Agenda when needed, but for those of you expecting a tech show from myself or Adam, that is never going to happen. We do No Agenda and we do it for you. No time and resources will be spent on speculative endeavors.
Tomorrow’s show promises to be exciting again with Adam on the road in Wyoming.

    Your co-host,

Communication is the Key--I can't help you if you don't help yourself! [RANT]

It has been a while since I ranted about anything so I think it is time!

Without a doubt, the biggest problem I witness when dealing with computer problems is the simple fact that little or no communication prior to there being a problem, had been done.   This is why I have always said, "The moment you suspect there is a problem or a pop up prompting you to do something or update this or that, just cancel and let me know".. just simply (and blindly) choosing to do whatever you happen to see on the screen is ludicrous.  With so many malicious properties out there, most of which will have pop ups that look just like the real windows prompt, forcing you to click on it is not an option.. but it is!  If you can't close the program normally then do the Microsoft three finger salute-which is the CTRL-ALT-DEL key.. This should bring up the program manager window which you can then choose TASK MANAGER and kill/end the task that is causing problems.. in most cases, it is your web browser. Note, this includes those malicious websites you end up landing on that won't let you do anything but click OK-WHICH YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO!. Once you have closed the task you are most likely good to go.. but that is when you should be contacting me with a report of the 'weirdness you just experienced'.    Although restarting the computer is also an option, I don't recommend it in the case of a malicious attack because there is a good change some malicious items have been planted in the start up process which will launch in the background upon restart.  Therefore if I can get to it BEFORE the computer is restarted then I can typically save a lot of time!

Now for the rant--I am sick and tired  of people constantly blaming the 'updates' as the problem.  So many times I hear this, "could the problems be due to the recent updates that were done?" or "could this problem be because windows 10 has been installed?"  and the kicker.. "It was working fine before you worked on it!"  OMG are you kidding me?  Yes, I worked on it..updated and cleaned the many issues that were causing your computer to run at a snails pace and remove the many malicious items that were "calling home" to the mothership of all malware servers (in some cases).. Seriously, you wouldn't believe how some computers are when I work on them.. but to blatantly say the problem was because of me directly working on the computer is asinine! It's like, what am I here for, to purposely screw up your computer? No of course not.. my mentality when it comes to working on any computer is that I treat it like it was my own.. I want it performing to it optimal abilities, clean and clear from malicious items and other programs that are running in the background that do not need to be.

When I work on a computer it is either because I have been asked to repair a problem, or I have received notice of issues through my IT console that warns me of any red flag issues such as windows updates, antivirus definitions out of date and/or virus detected.  Obviously the more frequently I work on a computer the less work there is to be done, and that means your computer is functioning the way it should be more often.  My analogy here is to treat me like your pool cleaner or house cleaning person... why should you have a place looking and functioning perfectly for that 1 day the cleaning staff come and then wait 2 or 3 months to get it cleaned again?  Obviously when they come to clean more frequently, there is less to be done so the time they spend there is a lot less (time is money and who wants to spend money?!)  It works the same for computer maintenance.  I might connect to a computer once ever 3 or 4 weeks but spend less than 15 minutes on it. Whereas I might connect to another computer once every 2 or 3 months and will end up spending an hour or more, due to all the maintenance that needs to be done.  In the end, the person that has me connect less frequently ends up paying more.. so which method would you choose?

So how long has it been since your last computer maintenance service call? What are you waiting for? Contact me to get it working right!

    ..i'm out.. drop the mic!

      No Agenda Thursday Show

The end of the world is near. Donate before it is too late!

      Dear Producer,

Today marks the end of the world for a few doomsday cults. You have to wonder if these folks are disappointed when this nonsense does not come to pass as predicted. Google the terms “doomsday” and “Sept 23” to find videos and details.

There are a number of offenders involved in this malarkey which seems like a distraction of the week propagated by news and analysis sources that should try to educate the public not needlessly scare the excitable.
Tomorrow’s show will celebrate the end of the world once again with a simple 9/23 or $9.23 mini-donation that everyone can afford. Support for the show was very poor last Sunday and your help is needed. Please contribute any amount by clicking here.
Also the 8th anniversary show is in a few short weeks. Again we are offering three congratulatory donations to help celebrate. 800 pennies800 dimes or 800 dollars.

The 800 dollar donation come with double executive producer credit. One fortomorrow’s show and one for the actual show 800.

If the world ends tonight, this will all be moot, of course.
Found on the CCTV Chinese government news channel. This is not what the US public was told about the climate change agreement with China. WE reduce our emissions while Chinese emissions continue to increase to 2030? How is this a smart idea? Seems as if the US public has been scammed.
This mess is allowed to worsen for the next 15 years unabated. This is the vaunted climate change agreement?
Tomorrow’s show will incorporate Adam’s travels and discuss the show meet-ups as well as the Pope's awkward visit to the USA whereby he is consulting with leftist troublemaker Naomi Klein, which is odd in itself.

Only your No Agenda Show will get this all analyzed correctly.  Support these efforts with a contribution today.
      Your co-hosts,

Trusteer by Rapport is BAD--stop allowing this on your computer

It seems people are so paranoid of viruses and malware these days that they just take it for granted when their banking institution tells them to install Trusteer software to 'help with security" that they will do it.. do you really want to have your direct/secure connection to your online banking website to be re-routed through a third party proxy? I wouldn't and neither should you! This is nothing more than a company doing their best to grab hold of as much data as they can (data mining) of the highest order.  Now, have you tried to uninstall this software? When you have to go through hoops as you will find out, and even then you may find yourself having to restart your computer in safe mode and using the uninstaller tool just because all other methods fail.. it is a sign that you probably shouldn't have been installing that crapware in the first place..

To save you from having to go searching for the uninstall tool (for which they want your first born child before they will relinquish the uninstaller link) I will save you the troubles..

Here is the email response I got, along with the installer download link and instructions, should you need them:

      Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting Trusteer Technical Support.

In order to remove Rapport from your PC using our removal utility, please download the utility from the following link:

If you are uninstalling due to a technical issue with Rapport, we would be glad to assist you in resolving any difficulty you may have encountered.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.
