You know it is time for a computer upgrade when...

...when you go to plug in the SD Memory card only to find you still have a floppy drive. Yes, believe it or not the floppy drive still exists on many computer cases to this day, even though it has pretty much been extinct for years. True, you can still update your computer software and leave some of the older hardware still intact, but the best thing you could is think about a new box! Now that Windows 7 is the operating system of choice (which means it will be the one you are going to be using when you buy the new box), you shouldn't find much learning is required if you have ever used a windows machine. Unfortunately however, I am learning through various clients that have treated themselves to new boxes for the holidays, that it shipped with Windows Vista (64bit version) and in all cases, they were unaware of the Windows 7 Upgrade which should be free from the computer manufacturer, however it means ordering the disk and typically waiting a month or more for it to arrive. Then when it does arrive, you have to go through what some are saying is painfully long upgrade procedures. True, if you have a lot of programs on your computer, especially older ones, it may take a few hours to get everything done but it should work seamlessly. Ideally you are going to be doing this upgrade BEFORE you get too many new programs installed so it shouldn't be a major operation. All I am saying is if you haven't thought about upgrading your computer system because you haven't had any major issues, but you are still using windows XP and yes, you still have a floppy drive installed... now is the time to buy yourself a new computer. Windows 7 is wonderful. In my opinion, the best o/s Microsoft has ever made to this date. So what are you waiting for? Make it one of your New Years resolutions! After all, for the amount of time you use your computer, odds are that is only increasing, why not start the new year with a new computer!

@google there should be an app for that

I use and iphone and I would have to say one of the first apps I installed was the Google app. I was a little disappointed when all I really got was a link to the google apps which opened in a Safari window. What I would like to see is a complete management system whereas I can handle everything, including adsense and the ability to 'suggest things' to Google.  Yes, Google are you listening... I would work for you in a heartbeat if it meant having the chance to make the world a better place.  I am half way through watching "Trouble The Water" and as a Canadian, pretty blown away by the obvious neglect from their own Government when the money continues to get spent overseas in other wars.  Not to get all political or anything but come on, when everything depends on communication and it is quite apparent that the app store, regardless of phone you use, is going to be where you want to be and if there is a way to make it easier to contact you, this should be at the top of the list.  Do I need to remind you of what the CEO of Facebook did recently, with regards to every subscriber's profiles?  I should hope this is not a tactic a company that I want to believe in so much and would work for in a heartbeat, if only I could be promised my knowledge, expertise could be used in a way to magnify my own efforts to a better world we all can enjoy!

Thursday is the day you want to have No Agenda!

I want to thank all that have sent their kind words with regards to the recent passing of my mother. It is taking a while to set the sails back in the right direction and so I can't think of a better way then to plug in my earbuds and catch up on what is really going on in the world. With all that has happened in my life recently, it is always good to stay in touch with the real reality.

Here is what you can look forward to in todays episode.

A Family Matter-update

First of all I do want to thank all that have sent their prayers and
warm wishes for my Mother. Unfortunately the stroke was not the only
problem as a groath in the back of her throat was found during the CT
scan which has been determined to be cancerous, and because of the
most recent stroke there is nothing that can be done on this matter.
Talk about a strong woman however, during this scan it was determined
that in fact it was a stroke which affected her speach, three
additional strokes from a previous time, on the other side of the
brain were found which apparently did not affect her in any way as
these appeared to be quite old.

In any case Mom has now been moved to the Andy Moog Hospice house
where she is resting quite comfortably, listening to her favorite
sport--curling, cheering on Kevin Martin and/or Glen Howard to victory.

TROJAN HORSE VIRUS ON THE LOOSE

UPDATE-SOLVED: Ok so after messing around with things, it appears it is NOT the Avant Browser's problem but AVAST antivirus's latest update that screws things when you launch your Avant Browser. (I am still diagnosing WHY this is happening but you only want your computer to work right so read on for the instructions if you want to do it yourself or CONTACT ME if you want me to do it for you [existing clients that I have the ability to connect to directly].

To solve this yourself: first RIGHT CLICK on the Avast Icon on the systemtray and choose ABOUT AVAST and then click on the License Key and (copy/paste this  C90591623H1200A1113-RKNATNJP  )

Then, CLICK HERE to download the latest set of virus definitions. (Choose RUN or SAVE and then Run when download complete).

RESTART your computer after this is done. That should do it. Now, if you had the virus already remove the avant browser, you can reinstall it by DOWNLOADING IT HERE.

UPDATE: This is very new so please understand I am working on it now. It appears the problem is within either the Avant browser and/or the antivirus with which it recognizes the "IAS" or internal account of the avant browser. As you may or may not know, when you open your avant browser, it will automatically connect to your own account where your bookmarks and autofill are saved and if there is an error connecting to that server, in this case, it is trigering the antivirus as a trojan detected. Therefore the best solution at this time is to cancel whatever the antivirus tells you to do, restart your computer and DO NOT use the avant browser. Use the alternative web browser such as Google Chrome and/or Mozilla's Firefox. I do not nor ever, suggest using the Internet explorer in this case especially since the Avant Browser emulates the Internet explorer exactly, the problem may also show up if you try to use that browser.

As my phone is ringing off the hook, it appears there is a trojan horse virus on the loose and I suggest not opening any email or visiting websites you are unfamiliar with. It appears to be blocking access to your normal home page and if you do have a secondary web browser (such as mozilla firefox or google chrome) I suggest trying that.. Note for those that do use the AVANT BROWSER, this emulates identically to the Internet Explorer therefore as in most cases the Internet Explorer will always be the first thing to get hit, which means the AVANT BROWSER may work very similarly... if you haven't already contacted me on this, please do as I will add you to the ever growing list of computers to connect to and take a look. Note however, I can not connect to you if your computer is not connected to the internet, therefore if you are having troubles, I suggest choosing to power down your computer. Wait 30 seconds and then power it back up and do nothing more, do not try opening the internet web browser or checking email, simply leave it as is and call me ASAP.
