Dear Producers, This is the giving time of the year. And before you go to some big box store and buy that motorized junk mechanical reindeer to decorate your house or get a talking Santawhich you will regret owning. Think of the No Agenda Show as alternative use of this expense. You will be supporting the show you love and the show that keeps you from falling into the pit of nonsense created by the government-public relations abyss designed to keep you in your place. When the first of the NSA leaks first appeared and Snowden was still unknown you heard most of the media calling him a traitor and how important it was to let the NSA do its job. This was spouted on Fox, MSNBC, all the talk radio folks and the major news networks. It was relentless. On your No Agenda Show the first thing said was the only reason for this sort of surveillance was for intimidation, inside information for buying and selling stocks and blackmail. Apparently the NSA has the porn watching habits on a famous (yet unnamed) Hollywood 9-11 Truther who can now be told to shut up or he might find his career ruined by his private activities. This was predicted long ago by the No Agenda Show. The No Agenda Show is the only source of this sort of forward-analysis that makes sense of the news. You are not surprised by any of these blackmail revelations because your No Agenda Show prepares you in advance. This analysis and insight is as important as anything anyone is doing in a world now dominated by scripted often bogus news reporting by the rest of the untrustworthy media that merely parrot what they are told to parrot. As one producer said, “No Agenda is the Guardian of Reality.” Let’s keep this going for everyone’s sake. Donate today. You should also think about grabbing the most popular subscription level of $33.33 a month. Good stuff on tomorrow’s show. No Agenda Producers Update
Producers, This week we just have a reminder that both myself and Adam will be back from our short trips with some insights we’d normally not get. This means: “what are people out there actually thinking.” Check the stream live at the normal time or make sure to download the podcast. Also, you should visit the support page and help us produce the show with a generous donation. Things have been seriously lagging. Help us. Your co-host, John C. Dvorak PS I went through security under TSA-pre-check. I’ll tell you all about it on Sunday. |

As per my earlier post on the installation of the Internet Explorer 11.. as it is now considered an 'automatic update' and part of the critical updates, some are finding that it doesn't install, even after restarting and having it as the only update left to install. that may help solve this as I have yet to try it personally, I do have a number of machines I will be testing their solutions on.

Internet Explorer 11 is out for Windows 7-Should you use it? Of course not!
If you know me then you also know just how much I love the Internet Explorer web browser, it certainly gets a lot of my attention when it comes to posting items on this blog.
As it is now out and is part of the 'critical updates' found in the windows update, don't worry as it will be installed automatically in most cases, unless you have your windows updates turned off (probably not a good idea). The question is, should you use it? Absolutely not! You should continue to use Chrome as your main web browser, and again, if you know me, then you should have the Avant Browser as your backup "internet explorer" browser, since it emulates the Internet Explorer exactly. The thing is you still do require the Internet Explorer to be installed as it is (still) an integral part of the Windows operating system "internet" operating system. Even though you are not using it as a browser, some of the components of the product are used in the landscape of the windows connectivity to the internet (winsock for example) Therefore having it installed is only going to help with the overall security of when you surf the web on a windows machine.
Getting to the actual Internet Explorer and just why I am so against using it.. the security is quite obviously the first issue but there are so many other reasons. For example, when you first install and use it, you will notice the nice plain and simple look which has changed substantially from previous versions. This is because they are trying to take a page from Chrome in simplicity, but the real problem is they are missing the point in simplicity by doing away with some very basic and serious points, like the Status Bar! When you are browsing the web, having the ability to point at a link BEFORE clicking on it helps to determine if you really want to be clicking on it. Having this turned off by default it a click on a malicious site waiting to happen! The fact that the other menu bars are also turned off are fine except for the fact that any 'toolbar' that was installed as a result of malware already installed on your computer is still completely functioning even without the Menu and Favorites bar being selected to view within the browser, therefore you are actually better off having these selected to view so that you can see what other toolbars are enabled and installed (so that you can remove them using CCLEANER)
The Internet Explorer and the fact that you do not use it will result in less chance of installing malicious products, something I have pretty much tested from the amount of user computers I maintain, but not installing it will also leave your system more open to certain internet/network related security holes that Microsoft continues to patch on a weekly basis. This is why the Internet Explorer is considered a Critical Update and also why the XP Operating system is simply not safe enough to use on the internet these days, since IE9 is the last available version for XP. If you are still running XP then you should be getting yourself a new computer sooner rather than later!
As always, if you aren't sure about something just ask me and I will help in any way I can, hopefully making your time with technology a fun experience!

No Agenda Saturday Memo
Dear Producers, The next show has Adam in Europe and John in California where you’ll get another good International report along with the attached memo from out International economic hitman in Sudan. You can read this for yourself and extrapolate what’s coming. Another mess that the USA will have to be involved with. That seems to be a theme with your No Agenda Show and as the Show enters its seventh year all you are asked is for continued support by visiting the support page here or contributingany amount here. A remember everything over $200 gets you a bona-fide producer credit. Your co-host, John C. Dvorak PS The Sack of Sevens is off to a good start. Click here. The report follows: Exclusive report to No Agenda Producers and Newsletter Subscribers. Dispatches from Juba, South Sudan the youngest country in the world. I wish I could say I was excited to be going to South Sudan but I wasn¹t, even if it meant I could increment my country counter from 114 to 115. Traveling alone just holds no appeal to me any longer. People in my world, that of International Development, were all telling me I would really like it there. After all, it was like the Wild West of development projects. This country has so little going for it that it is a dream come true for people, like myself, seeking to make a difference. Throw a stone anywhere and you will find a problem needing to be fixed. My orientation to Juba did not take long since it is closer to being a town than a city, let alone the capital of the newest country in the World. With just about 350,000 people living mostly in rough built corrugated or cinder block housing, Juba sits at the terminus of the navigable Nile which provides a huge source of drinkable water to the area. Juba is always HOT sitting just 4 degrees north of the Equator. My Arrival corresponds with the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the hottest part of the year. The heat is relentlessly hot. People live indoors where the air conditioners are continuously trying to fight back the ever encroaching heat. Step outside and it is an instant dry heat that hits you in the face. Today it was only 95 degrees, next month it will average over 100 degrees and reach 110 quite often. From what I saw at the airport, and what people told me, the International Development community was young, and globally dispersed. The American and Europeans seem to be all under the age of 30 with the exception of the senior staff who run the USAID and EU funded activities meant to support the survival of this country which was carved out after years of war. This information, borrowed from Wikipedia, explains the humanitarian rationale for being here: South Sudan is acknowledged to have some of the worst health indicators in the world. The under-five infant mortality rate is 135.3 per 1,000, whilst maternal mortality is the highest in the world at 2,053.9 per 100,000 live births. In 2004, there were only three surgeons serving southern Sudan, with three proper hospitals, and in some areas there was just one doctor for every 500,000 people. The Chinese are here as well, playing their role in taking over Africa one country at a time. I could go on for paragraphs about the Chinese presence in Africa, but that is a different conversation. After working for half a day, I went to a late lunch at one of the Local haunts and it was buzzing with music, TV¹s and ex-pats everywhere. The restaurant is said to be owned by someone from Sudan, therefore, no alcohol is served. Sitting in this restaurant you could easily forget that you are in South Sudan and, instead, be in Nairobi or even Kampala. I could immediately see that watering-holes like this support the development community who are the only ones with enough money to afford to eat there. Everything is imported and therefore very expensive. It is the development community which is fueling the growth of Juba while at the same time providing the expertise to the South Sudanese to raise their country out of extreme poverty to plain old poverty and hopefully few unintended deaths at birth. My week in Kenya was marked by a lot of work, both Kenyan and East Coast time zones leading to a distinct lack of sleep. I do not often get to the point of complete exhaustion, but last night I fell asleep at 630 PM until I was awoken by what I thought was a freight train running through my room. The prefab housing units all have metallic roofs and I quickly realized that the loud sound was rain. I got out of bed and went outside to see a deluge of rain. It was a hurricane without the winds. It felt like it rained 6 inches in a span of 30 minutes. I have never heard it rain harder. So that is how my first 24 hours in South Sudan played out. By the way, I am receiving hazard pay for being here. It is considered an active war zone. Again taking liberally from Wikipedia I will close with this: Campaigns of atrocities against civilians have been attributed to the SPLA (Sudanese Peoples Liberation Army). In the SPLA/M's attempt to disarm rebellions among the Shilluk and Murle, they burned scores of villages, raped hundreds of women and girls and killed an untold number of civilians. Civilians alleging torture claim fingernails being torn out, burning plastic bags dripped on children to make their parents hand over weapons and villagers burned alive in their huts if rebels were suspected of spending the night there. In May 2011, the SPLA allegedly set fire to over 7,000 homes in Unity States. The UN reports many of these violations and the frustrated director of one Juba-based international aid agency calls them "human rights abuses off the Richter scale". In 2010, the CIA issued a warning that "over the next five years,...a new mass killing or genocide is most likely to occur in southern Sudan." The Nuer White Army has stated it wished to "wipe out the entire Murle tribe on the face of the earth as the only solution to guarantee long-term security of Nuer¹s cattle"[28] and activists, including Minority Rights Group International, warn of genocide in the current Jonglei conflict. More to come. (photos from Internet archives) |

How long does a hard drive last? Are you backed up?
This is certainly not the first time I am posting comments about backing your data up as it is probably one of, if not the biggest resources you should be considering with every device you use. By this I mean backing up your data. The Cloud-yes, off of your existing device, to a location that is safe, secure and most importantly, recoverable any time you need it. The TAUW has a great post about just how long hard drives are expected to last, through another blog post from BackBlaze's own website.. BACKBLAZE, by the way is where I suggest purchasing your offsite backup from as they have the best deal on UNLIMITED data backup for less than $4 per month!
There was a time a few years ago when most hard drive manufacturers were providing up to 3 and even 5 year warranties which is now pretty much a thing of the past, since it seems even if you had a warranty it isn't going to bring the lost data back due to a hard drive failure. What good is getting your money back from a drive that cost you less than $100 in the first place, especially when that warranty is pro-rated anyway! The simple truth is, pay your $50/year on an off-site backup data plan and you are set.
What always gets me is how people can seriously be so CHEAP in stating they don't need this, when these same people think nothing of paying Norton ($39.99) or McAfee ($49.99) a yearly subscription for internet security (which is a crock!)
