Every Tuesday Microsoft pushes out any new security patches for their operating systems, which makes seems like there is always something available. Since Windows 8 this is because after an automatic windows update of any 'critical' release, if a restart of the computer is required, which is almost always the case, it will not perform this for 2 days if you don't restart it on your own before that time. What usually happens after your system is restarted, further windows updates are then available as some of these require certain patches to be installed before the other can be installed. I like to call it software layers. Therefore it is not uncommon for your system to have the update notification in the system tray almost all the time... and yes, it can be very annoying.
What I can't believe is how there can be so many security patches released each and every week! For example, this week there are anywhere from 42 to 52 available for your machine, as The Register reports. Is the operating system seriously that bad and full of holes and bugs that this is truly necessary? It seems so and as much as you may be like me and complain about these annoyances, it is for our own benefit. The problem I have most of the time is when a bunch of these updates end up being faulty after they have been installed, causing the computer to go in to a continual reboot phase for example, which lead to the removal and reinstallation of said updates. For someone like myself that handles hundreds of computers, this can become oh so annoying!
