If you re-examine the 2008 Russo-Georgian war with this Ukraine conflict you find many of the same arguments and rationales for the invasions. That lasted 17 days and if the timeline were overlaid, it would mean the Russians should be pulling out now taking the Donbas region with them. The differences in these events will prevent this from happening on the old schedule. The length of this event is exacerbated by well-orchestrated European and North American world outrage targeting Putin. There are some wild geopolitical aspects to all of this mainly a refugee crises targeting Poland, a troublesome EU member. Nothing like this happened during the Georgia event.
