Apple Announcement Everyone seems reservedly gah-gah over the somewhat creepy new Apple Vision Pro VR headset, which is one of the most elaborate devices ever conceived. With an incredible array of sensors, cameras and high-end computing power as well as a world-class display people cannot quite figure out who it is designed for. It is going to sell for $3500 and you might argue that it probably cost $3500 to build. Who or what is it for? Today's tech pundits all assume that the developers will figure out what to do with it and eventually it will be cheap. Not one analyst has speculated that this is a device intended for use by the military and intelligence communities, because that's exactly what it is. And it will cost more than $3500 once it is “militarized” with a bigger battery and painted Army green. An excellent review of the device can be watched here. The Defense Department contractors can get to work now developing simulation and training software for the device. |
