Most people these days are likely to have an LCD/HDTV in their home however unless it is less than 1 year old it probably is not a SMART TV. What makes a tv SMART is the ability to not only connect to the internet via a wired or wireless network connection but the ability to simply click on a built in icon for such sites like NETFLIX. The solution is to purchase a small HDMI device that plugs in to one of the available inputs and communicates with the internet via wireless networking.
The two major players for this would be Chromecast and ROKU. So what is the difference?
Chromecast ($35) will only provide you with the ability to view programs via your existing computer/tablet device wirelessly. This means you still require the computer whereas with ROKU ($49.99) you get numerous free channels to view which includes NETFLIX and AMAZON for example.
Personally speaking, although the Chromecast is very simple and convenient for those that wish to pair with their phone, tablet or laptop, you simply can't compare it with the all-in-one ROKU device. Therefore the winner here is ROKU, for $15 more you don't need that second device.
