Depending on how you use the internet and what websites you visit, you may find things not performing the way you would normally see them perform. My websites which are hosted through GoDaddy are all down right now, just like GoDaddy.com is down, as it appears they have been hit by an 'anonymous attack'. In my opinion this anonymous attack is more likely an ex-employee that is somewhat disgruntled, that knows the ins and outs of the internal domain systems. With most security issues in any business being sourced to an 'inside job', this in my opinion is no different. Now with regards to compensation for the tens of hundreds, or thousands of websites both charitable and for profit, that are currently not up and running, what does GoDaddy do about it? I guess it will be a wait and see game since their own website is down, you can't contact them directly.
So if you are finding your web browser is currently timing out and not going anywhere. Try another website, and another, etc.. the internet isn't down, but it is most certainly hurting right now!
