EVERNOTE-PerUser install by another user install error FIX So you can Install the latest Evernote {technical-tip}
Let me say right off the bat this was not an easy fix...many other users in various forums had luck but scrolling further down you would find it didn't work for all and there is a good chance (but doubtful) that my own fix may not work. I say doubtful because you are essentially wiping absolutely everything that is Evernote from your computer before you install the latest version. I am really not sure why the Evernote Team has not made this fix incorporated in to their latest version or at the very least, create an Evernote Uninstaller Tool that cleans everything. Thier product is wonderful and I certainly recommend it as one of the top 5 apps to have on your mobile device as well as your computer!
My instructions are for Windows 8 (8.1) but obviously this works for Vista and 7
Ok here we go.
The first thing you are going to need to do is sign in to the administrator account of windows. This is a hidden account used basically for this exact problem and should NEVER be used on a routine basis. Once you are done with the repair you should be turning it off.
Right click on the start menu and choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Now type the following:
net user administrator /active:yes
if you get an error message it is because you forgot to add the space after "administrator" yes, there is a space there!
once this is done you can type 'exit' and return or simply close from the window X
Now sign out of your account and sign in to the newly created administrator. Give it a minute to do the initial setup of your desktop as this will be something it has never done before.
Once you are in to the desktop, go and download/install REVO uninstaller (Free will work but they give you 30 days free with the Pro one so I suggest using that--you can uninstall this program once you have completed this uninstall anyway)
Run the Revo uninstaller program and if you have not already uninstalled Evernote do so by right clicking on that icon in the programs list and UNINSTALL.
If you have already uninstalled evernote then it should not appear in the program list. In this case type the word evernote in to the search and it will then find any instance of it and you can RIGHT CLICK on it and choose uninstall. You will want to select all and then delete. This will remove all registry entries.
Once you have done this close the program and restart the computer. Go back in to the administrator account and start REVO uninstaller again and scan for evernote. If you have removed everything then it shouldn't find anything and if it does then RIGHT CLICK and choose uninstall and SELECT ALL and DELETE. Continue to do this if necessary.. I only had to do it once and when I restarted everything that was EVERNOTE was gone.
Once EVERNOTE no longer appears in the search of REVO, close the program.
Now go ahead and install EVERNOTE while still in the administrator account. Be sure to choose ADVANCED option and then you will have the option to choose INSTALL FOR ALL USERS.
You can also choose your location of the installation. (Since I have two hard drives, my D drive is my location as I keep my Windows Drive on C.)
Once EVERNOTE is installed, SIGN OUT of the administrator account and sign in to your account.
Now RIGHT CLICK on the START menu and choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Now type the following:
net user administrator /active:no

if you remembered the space after the administrator you should not have an error and you should be good to now type EXIT or click on the Windows X to close that.
You have now turned off the admininstrator account and you have successfully installed the latest version of EVERNOTE.
If you still need help you can contact me further as always, I can be a key click away by choosing me as your computer technical expert for any and all future maintenance.. just ask me how!

Tech Support Live Chat vs Live Phone--it's like Apples and Oranges
Depending on who you talk to of course, I have always found when a utility company or any other online company for that matter, offer a 'chat' option instead of calling their tech support, I will always give it a try.. I know it will allow me to do other things while I wait for a response.
In summary (before my long rant explaining everything below): even if it is less personal and in a chat or email-the end result is still the person you are dealing with at the other end and if they are not educated in the business they are dealing with then you are going to get nowhere fast! This is quite apparent whenever a company goes on strike, for example when Telus did, and you contact tech support.. it can't get any better because you are actually talking to a manager and they get the job done quickly and quite efficiently.. so why must we go through all these hoops to get to the bottom line?!
Now for the long version:
I recently had to contact my friends local internet provider due to their automated pay system not functioning correctly. It seems from the email received, that the credit card 'refused payment' and so the first thing was to sign in and check if the credit card information was correct, since this is something you will have to do when you get issued a new credit card with expiry date and numbers.. it was correct so I then went and made a manual payment using that same credit card--and it worked! So off I went, figuring that was it.. however the next month the same thing happened and that is what forced me to start a chat with their tech support. While in the chat the had me waiting for some time, so while waiting I picked up the phone and contacted the credit card company and explained things to them. They assured me they did not 'refuse payment' and in fact stated if they had flagged this payee that the manual payment would also not have gone through. I then explained this to the internet company chat when they came back on (yes, I was able to complete my conversation with the credit card company before they got back to me).. they assured me it was NOT their problem and that this account was now on a cash pay only due to it not going through two months in a row... I asked to first stop the auto-pay because it isn't a problem with the credit card and I obviously don't want them to continue trying if it is not going to work. (the other issue was that the second time they tried using it they were also trying to cover the month prior as well, even though I had made a manual payment in full which their auto system had not recognized due to the fact it had gone through after the statement had been sent out). In any case 55 minutes in the chat, they told me I would have to contact their accounts department if I wanted to be 'hooked up to pay online again' due to the failed payments (even though it was not the credit card companies fault). Quite pissed at this point I ended the chat and called their tech support, went through the BS number clicking (press 0 by the way if you want to eliminate everything and get to a human being--I already knew this but still it takes some time).. after getting through to the human in accounts I first explained my 55 'lost minutes' due to the incompetence of the person I was in chat with and of course they apologized for that person and went on to help me. The very first thing this Customer Service Rep (CSR) told me was "oh yes, I read in my email this morning that the online system was having troubles with the pay option and they were working on it".. I not only removed the auto-epay but made the payment for that month using that same credit card that was apparently refusing payment and all was well.
That was one internet company.. now I had to deal with my own internet company and so I thought I would first try their chat... It took about 4 minutes to get connected but once I was connected I was able to not only ask the questions I had but placed my new order and will have my new modem mailed to me by the time I arrive home.. the entire chat was less than 5 minutes. Awesome!
So as I stated in the summary above, it isn't necessarily the technology you are using to get to the end result quickly will only be determined by the knowledge of the person you are dealing with at the other end. The reason I typically choose to email or chat with these companies is because when you put something down in writing, if the person reading it is unsure they have the ability to research before responding whereas when you talk to someone in person, they are quite often put on the spot and you will end up hearing that response, "I will have to transfer you to someone else that can help you with that". Don't get me wrong, I love human beings but I just can't stand ignorance and lack of the use of common sense.
Ok some people may ask well, which were the companies? The internet service provider with the bad chat tech support was Suddenlink and the internet service provider with the great chat support was Shaw.

Advertising is killing the Internet! {Rant}
With all this talk of 'net neutrality' and the need for a more speedy internet, the simple fact is that the advertising is killing it.
Is it just me or is it now almost impossible to get through any one news article through your news reader without the need to wait for the 'skip ad' to come up on the video you are stuck watching because, well, just text is apparently not good enough anymore. What is even more sad is the fact that the video you are waiting to watch ends up being shorter than the time it took to get through part of the ad before you could click on 'skip', noting that this is not always the case and sometimes you have to watch the entire thing.
Personally I have started removing these sites from my Feedly Feed and also make a point of closing any tab that does open with video when I know I can read the news via a text written story from another site.
Don't get me wrong, I love video--spent 2/3rds of my life in the field of broadcasting but that doesn't mean I HAVE to watch every new feed through video, nor do I have to turn to the internet and youtube or netflix for every movie I want to watch but if that is what the internet of the future is going to be all about then it would make sense they built another 'highway' since 'information' is one thing and 'entertainment' is another!

No Agenda-The Saturday Missive
Dear Producer, The Sunday No Agenda Show needs your help. Please support the Sundayshow with any sort of contribution, whatever you can afford, and everyone can afford something. Be part of the family. Show some support byclicking here and contributing whatever you can. Adam continues his report tomorrow of the wonders of Japan. From what I can tell, he will want to learn Japanese next. Tomorrow you also get a wrap of the most recent FCC hearings about Net Neutrality. On Twitter (@therealdvorak), I promised to explain the reason that the Democrat commissioners voted yes on the Net neutrality discussion tacitly approving the despised Wheeler proposals, while the Republicans voted no. The liberals in the USA, concerned about losing net neutrality, believed that the Wheeler plan was onerous and thus the evil Republican commissioners would vote for it and the freedom-loving democrats would vote against it.The opposite happened and everyone was baffled and shaking their heads. Obviously, they did not actually watch the hearings. First of all, the two Republicans, when you listened to them, were obviously Libertarians in their philosophy so there was no way they’d vote for anything like this as it involved government over-reach. Douchebags TV analysts, who obviously did not watch the hearings, opined that the Republicans voted no because they were just going to vote the opposite way the Democrats voted. What an amazingly bigoted thought. Not sure how this applies. But somehow it works. The Democrats who voted with Wheeler also had a skewed opinion. Their logic was that the government had to get more involved. This was because the net and net neutrality would be ruined by these horrible corporations. We need to save the public by doing something now! These two Democrat women were very smug and self-assured that this is the way to go. Appropriate clips from the hearings will be played tomorrow. Saving the public In the end it’s a comedy and you can be certain that the real target is freedom of speech. Enjoy it while you can. This has been playing out exactly as the No Agenda script has predicted. This is another reason to keep the No Agenda message thriving bycontributing today for the Sunday show. Your co-host, John C. Dvorak PS You are encouraged to send your checks, photos, and any sort of contribution to the PO Box. Mailing to No Agenda Show, Box 339, El Cerrito, CA 94530 PPS we also need more subscribers.
