Use Windows 10 Reset only as a last resort! [Technical Tip]

First of all I should mention this is a tip but also something you should only be reading through and not attempting yourself if you are an existing client of mine WITHOUT contacting me first!

It has come to my attention lately that more people are using the reset your PC when they run in to some pretty basic "Blue Screen of Death" scenarios.   Yes, Windows(10) is not perfect, no operating system is. But the reliability of the operating system can be quite good if you follow some pretty basic maintenance routines.  I could go on and on about this, since right out of the gate, if you install windows 10 the way Microsoft wants you to, and you continue to use Microsoft Edge as your browser and Defender as your defence against malware then you are doomed from the start!  But with the automatic updating of the various windows security issues happening whenever they become available, instead of waiting until "Patch Tuesday" is a good thing generally. However it does mean your system is more apt to crash any day of the week and not just Wednesday morning after the updates have been installed.

When your computer doesn't start, windows will provide you with a few options and although one of them is to reset the pc (keeping your files) you want to avoid this until you have exhausted all other attempts at repairing it. The first would be to simply restart normally and see if it fixes itself. The second option would be to choose 'allow windows to repair' and if that doesn't work then move to the other ADVANCED OPTIONS and choose START UP OPTIONS and then choose SAFE MODE.

SAFE MODE will confirm that your windows operating system is still in tact and that the problem is likely a device drive and/or your antivirus which may have a corrupted data file.
The fact that you can get to SAFE MODE means you can now simply restart your computer normally and odds are it will work. When I says odds are, I would say 8 out of 10 computers I have worked on this solves the problem. This is because within windows there is a boot log that records each and every attempt at booting up and this includes the safe mode boot. Because it was successful this should get your computer back to normal. Of course once this has been done you should be contacting me (if you haven't already done so) and I will confirm all updates and antivirus and security are working the way they should be.
