The July 4th holiday, per se, began officially in 1870 and turned into a paid federal holiday in 1938 in the middle of the Great Depression. It is one of two holidays that traditionally use fireworks to celebrate, New Year's being the other. Whatever the backstory it is an established holiday now associated with the beginning of summer, BBQ, family gatherings, and, in San Francisco at least, fog and chilly nights.
The No Agenda family including the round-table members, artists, contributors, and back office wish everyone an excellent 4th of July the whole world over. |
