Christmas Coincidence If you do the research, the start of Hanukkah and Christmas has coincided on the same day only five times since 1900. The specific years when this overlap occurred are: 1910 , 1921. 1959, 2005, and 2024. The occurrence of these two holidays on the same date is relatively rare, averaging about five times per century due to the differences between the lunar Hebrew calendar and the solar Gregorian calendar. As a result, Hanukkah can start as early as late November and as late as late December. The next occurrence of this alignment is in 2035. This is a special day for the No Agenda Show and another reason to be working this week. Of course, then we have the less celebrated holiday called Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is a week long “holiday” created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 in response to the Watts riots. The holiday, runs from December 26 to January 1, was designed to provide African Americans with an alternative to Christmas. The name "Kwanzaa" is derived from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning "first fruits." Karenga incorporated elements from various African harvest festivals, particularly those from Southern Africa. The event lasts 7 days and should involve a different party each night. Few people actually do much with this event. And there is always Festivus (or the rest of us), another complete fabrication developed on the Seinfeld TV sitcom. It's highlighted by the “airing of grievances.” Christmas itself is condemned by atheists and also by some fundamental Christian groups as being too materialistic. The Christmas tree is also seen as a pagan symbol that must be rebuked, except by the pagans. The invention of other-worldly beings such as Santa Claus and others add dimensionality to the event in many cultures. This also takes the Christian sting out of the holiday which, like Easter, annoys hard-boiled atheist party-poopers and Satanists alike. They soften the blow by aggressively saying “Happy Holidays” while insisting on removal of any Christian symbolism if they think they can get some sympathy from the sensitive locals. This always works better in pearl-clutching Democrat controlled areas of the country. This game plays out year after year. Fox News usually makes a fuss about it as do right-wing radio hosts. At No Agenda you are encouraged to celebrate in any way you want and celebrate the show with a gift of support. The show needs you. |
