Avast Antivirus-revisited
[UPDATE] I figured since this post deserves special notice I am re-submitting it as I don't believe enough people read it the first time around.
I am still a firm believer in the Avast antivirus product however there are a few things that one should remember and recognize when using any "free" software program and that is they would really rather you used their paid model. No, I am NOT recommending you do this. In fact quite the opposite because the paid version provides you with the 'tools' that simply slow your system down and are far too intrusive to be worthy of paying for. Unfortunately like any good product, which Avast antivirus is for doing just that--virus detection, it seems that these products now want to be an all in one security and maintenance program by providing malware/spyware monitoring and software program update monitoring for other programs you have installed. Taking it a step further, it will also monitor all of your web surfing and block various websites. The problem with this, besides the fact this causes major performance issues, it s redundant if you use the chrome web browser since it already monitors for various security threats.
Now the real reason for this post is to make those that use this free antivirus program aware of a few basic things to watch out for with the main one being what happens after an automatic program or virus definition update that prompts you to restart your computer to complete the update. Upon restarting you are presented with a pop up prompting you "you are almost done..." and then it wants you to click OK/CONTINUE, but if you don't first de-select the small checkbox you are going to end up agreeing to allow the installation of software from their sponsor, currently this is drop box. Now you may say, well thats ok because I use dropbox anyway, but this will install that version and it may be an older version. Note: any software program version that is older than the one already installed will not recognize the newer version whereas any installation of a software program that is older than the one already installed you will be prompted that 'this program already exists and is newer than the one you are about to install'. This is typically where most people run in to troubles because even though you may have this software installed, the version may be different due to it being a sponsored version and so when you go to update the normal program you already have installed...that is where things can go wonky. This month it is dropbox which isnt as bad since dropbox is a very good program, but not everyone will need or want this and by simply thinking you ae doing the right thing by clicking "ok/continue" on the competion of the antivirus update you are now left with this new program installed and loading on start up. What happens next month or next week when that free program you have installed changes the sponsor to something else and new updates are ready...you will eventually end up with loads of programs you have no idea what they are, where they came from and why they are making your computer function much slower...all because of one small checkbox you overlooked....and this is why I can't emphasize enough, the importance to simply notify me whenever you get pop ip,prompts that updates are available or any other prompt you are unsure of. Simply click CANCEL or NO when asked if you want to proceed and it will not be updated (that is after you have contacted me to let me know of the prompt you just recieved).
For me this becomes a quick 2 to 5 minute job of updating instead of a 10-15 minute one because i am first having to remove and clean your computer of the crap you accidently installed.
I'm here to help, so go ahead and take advantage of me!

No Agenda Producers Letter
It’s time to begin the six week cycle countdown. Your No Agenda Show will continue to discuss this, deconstructing the events, predicting the future until it is clear that the cycle is over. One of the problems with these "events" is that, besides providing an excuse for big security budgets, they tend to lead up to something big, meaning these little events are just rehearsals. Please give your support to the show to protect yourself from the onslaught of regurgitated and parroted baloney you get from most so-called news sources. Click here to contribute any amount you can afford. I recovered a few pics sent in by listeners that you might like. The first is a picture of Adam in some desolate part of Mexico. I was going to add this to the last newsletter to get some sympathy donations. I couldn’t feel that sorry for him. And as you can see he’s addicted to Oreos. According to some government or NGO idiot they are as addictive as cocaine. Here’s is a weird shot of the scratch paper that comes with the Pearson Common Core study and testing system. Producer Chris noted a couple of things. The scratch paper had a bar code and needed to be returned with the test. He suggested the possibility that this will be traced to the student and be checked by the gestapo to make sure the kid isn’t cheating by learning his addition and times-tables by memorizing themrather than going through the convolutions required by the system. Sick Here's an idea for you confronted with this scratch paper. Use this No Agenda scratch paper instead (designed by Producer Robert Goshko).
Finally, who owns this "Noah Genda" yacht up in the Pacific Northwest where it was spotted.? An amusing pun, for certain.
On tomorrow’s show we’ll look at the various possibilities for the next cycle event. You’ll be surprised with what we’re coming up with. Your co-host, John C. Dvorak PS Please go immediately to the support page and help the show. I don't want to get hurt in som |

Windows 8.1 update failed to install-fix (technical)
[UPDATE] This supposed 'fix' (below) doesn't work on a DELL machine I recently tried to update so it obviously has not been solved!
-------------------------
With the most recent release of the Windows 8.1 update which in the past was considered a 'service pack' , in some instances it will not install. At first it appeared it was only on Dell machines but then it was happening on some servers as well. Finally Microsoft realized it was something that required patching and they have done just that.
Visit this website to learn more and follow the necessary steps depending on your system.
In every instance of this problem that I have encountered with my clients, this page is where I end up downloading the fix from. Note this includes the download link for server, 64 bit and 32 bit versions.
If you are not a tech then most likely you should only be passing this information on to someone that is, that takes care of your computer issues. Contact me if you need further assistance.

No Agenda Producers Letter
Dear Producers, We hope you enjoy tomorrow’s show and hope that you continue to support the show during an interlude like this since, believe it or not, we are still working. Please continue support by clicking here or here. I checked the Paypal ledger and very few people including only one associate executive producer have contributed anything to the Sunday show, which is saddening. To remind you what a Bill of Attainder is, exactly, you should read the Wiki entry here. British Justice by Decree This is a type of law used extensively in England between 1300-1800. What it means insofar as the USA is concerned (in plain terms) is that the legislature cannot decree a person or organization guilty without due process. This is exactly what is being done with the Iranian Ambassador to the UN, Hamid Abutalebi. Ted Cruz is the biggest loudmouth about this guy and sponsored the Senate version of the Bill. Hamid Abutalebi is ”believed” or is ”thought to” have “something” to do with the student uprising that resulted in the takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979. He was 22 at the time. Now this guy may indeed be a massive creep and bad guy as suggested in this eye-opening biography. Make no mistake this is an illegal Bill of Attainder and also managed to set up the USA toviolate treaty obligations to the UN, which will be used to again embarrass the US in the eyes of the world community, almost as if Ted Cruz was the biggest sucker in an International game of intrigue. Of course the public is all in on this, whipped into a frenzy by Sean Hannity, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and all these other “pro-Constitution” supposed conservatives. All the Democrats were also waving the flag. Nobody showed any sign of backbone to point out the obvious. This is an illegal unconstitutional act. Of course if nobody in government speaks out about droning US citizens, who cares about this breach? The question you should ask: Was this Hamid Abutalebi ever indicted for anything to do with the Iran-hostage crises? Are there papers filed? If he is such a creep for something he did almost 40 years ago why are there no indictments or extradition orders? Why don’t we arrest him at the border? Instead, a law is passed declaring him guilty by extension, and all the right wing pundits, who are always talking up the Constitution, praise this legislation? These pundits are not your friends. You have to wonder how else are they chipping away at the Constitution. All the usual creeps are on board too. Lindsay Graham co-sponsored the Senate bill. Democrat Chuck Schumer publicly said it was great as did John McCain. It passed the Senate by unanimous consent. Where were big talker constitutionalists Rand Paul and Marco Rubio in this debate? Or didn’t they not notice the unconstitutional aspect of this? Surely their large and awesome staffs should have noticed. Supporters of the house bill authored (sic) by Doug Lamborn of Colorado had chatterbox Louis Gomert on board. Of course the public is all in on this too, not noticing the consequences and dangers of this sort of legislation. You can be sure the US public has no clue what a Bill of Attainder is or why it is so dangerous to their welfare. Read this article published on The Hill website. In particular read the public comments at the bottom. It should both frighten and enlighten all No Agenda producers, listeners and supporters . You should be glad you are not like these people. Read the comments and you can easily sense the insanity in the crowd, all inspired by mainstream commercial media. You should thank the No Agenda Show for much of your own political sanity and continue to support our efforts by clicking here. The topic will be further discussed, as needed, on the Thursday show. Your co-host, John C, Dvorak PS please add a subscription to your support by clicking here and finding one suitable. |
