I'm watching the pre-season NFL football games and they show the female official in the Seattle/San Diego game. I have a few issues with this. First of all, not wanting to come across as being sexist here, but why would a woman even want to be an official in a completely mens sport such as NFL football. Sure I can understand it in field hockey, womens hockey, or other sport that actually has female competitors... but that isn't what really bugs me.. it is the fact that they go out of their way in the broadcast to bring up her bio as to when she started referring football games and and basically singling this person out as something special. Obviously if she wants to be part of a mostly male profession, she probably doesn't want that sort of exposure but for sure the media will exploit her in whatever fashion they desire. Personally I just don't get why she would even want to be subjected to this. I guess it would be quite different if we all just accepted that women do want to do what has always been a man's pass time and didn't make any fuss what-so-ever!
Meanwhile, to add the tech to this story.. tablets are now something you will find the coaches on the sidelines using this year.. like they actually had to make it part of the laws of NFL football... go figure!
