Marijuana serves and important role in medicine and propaganda. Few people fully understand the propaganda implications.

The drug was criminalized in the late 1930’s and all research was stopped insofar as its potential benefits are concerned. Most of the research was since done in Israel.

The release of a slew of dubious movies was part of the attempt to wipe out the product that was important for the fiber industries and the paper manufacturing business by providing hemp-based products. Hemp was indeed a weed that was incredibly useful. Most heavy-duty rope was all hemp.
The intoxicating form of marijuana was only a mild intoxicant used primarily by musicians as it opened various auditory channels allowing an individual to hear details normally overlooked.

And it was a known medical treatment for numerous ailments.

There are a lot of theories as to why the federal government outlawed the weed and there is a note of truth in each. I personally like to think that it was part of the mainstream anti-intoxicant thread running though the culture and which resulted in alcohol prohibitions. Once prohibition was recognized as counter-productive and repealed, there was a need to ban something and it only took a few bogus movies and phony stories about a non-existent problem to persuade congress that pot was bad.

This turned a whole generation of youth into cynics regarding the government. Because of the new publicity created by the movies a large group of kids began to experiment and did not find any of the assertions to be true, There wasn’t any desire to go nuts or jump off buildings or go on a rape-spree. It was a mild intoxicant that did indeed make music sound better.

The anti-intoxicant mavens (mostly Baptists and Methodists from the deep South) persisted, until recently with the pendulum swinging the other way. The real motive force once the legalization began was the old ladies who flock to weed stores get CBD cream and various edibles to help manage their arthritis and other ailments. Visit one of these facilities and you’ll see what influential group is not going to let this pendulum swing back. This is why the naïve folks in law-enforcement such as Jeff Sessions (Methodist) will get nowhere in their attempts to turnback the clock only because of their personal moralistic views on this topic.

No Agenda says Happy 420, the dubious new holiday. Drive safely.
