Tomorrow's Show There will be a rundown of the Joe Biden record-breaking State of the Union speech, the longest, by word count (9191), in the history of the United States topping the 1995 Bill Clinton speech by one word. Of course the history of the so-called “State of the Union Speech’ stems from a constitutional requirement and has only been an actual speech since Woodrow Wilson. Before that it was a written statement. The history of the thing is outlined here.
Since this speech has evolved over time with new ideas added for impact. The guest celebrity is an example. This year it was Bono, presumably because Jill Biden wants to meet him. Stories about acts of heroism are also common at the speech. This year the new twist seems to have been booing and heckling of certain comments made by the President. This was highly entertaining. Let’s hope it becomes more common. Actual fistfights breaking out would also be a welcome addition. |
