Backblaze Raising Rates

Backblaze, the offsite backup company that has been providing me and most of my clients with unlimited data backup for $50 a year, since their inception, is now raising their rates.  To be honest I am quite surprised they held out as long as they did. But then again, the price of backup storage has dropped immensely over the years, other than the cost of living and providing the staff with a steady income it does make sense.
Here is the statement sent out by the Co-Founder and  CEO, Gleb Budman

Way back in 2008, we built our unlimited Computer Backup service and offered it at just $5/month. While most other unlimited offerings have gone away, we have not only committed to unlimited backup, we have also enhanced our service by providing faster backups and more features. We are humbled to be entrusted with more than 750,000,000 gigabytes of data by hundreds of thousands of customers.

After more than a decade, we've made the decision to raise prices for the first time. I've shared more detail on our thought process and decision in today’s blog post: Subscription Updates for Computer Backup.

Effective for new purchases and renewals after March 11, 2019 at 5PM Pacific, our prices will change from $5 to $6 per month, $50 to $60 per year, and $95 to $110 for two-year plans.

As a thank you to our existing customers, we are providing the option to purchase a 1-year extension for your existing licenses for $50 per license (our original pricing from over a decade ago).

Please note that the last day to buy an extension is March 11, 2019 at 5PM Pacific.

I want to thank you for being a customer and for giving us the opportunity to keep your photos, music, videos, documents, and other files safe. On behalf of the entire team at Backblaze, we look forward to providing you the best possible service for many years to come.
