I love you guys! In Japan, Valentine's day is not reciprocal, only women express their love and appreciation in the shape of chocolate towards the men in their lives. This extends beyond the romantic man to male friends, and even the boss! So, in the 2 weeks leading up to Valentine's day, department store food halls turn into chocolate malls with hordes of frenzied women frantically looking for just the right chocolates. Men in return are supposed to show their appreciation on 14 March called 'White Day' with white chocolates or other white items. Of course, by then it's mostly forgotten and we women feel once again jipped. May the crystals work, love and kisses, Dame Astrid, Viscountess of Tokyo |
